Volunteering in Okinawa is a great way to find your people if you are new to the island. Even if you’ve been here for a while, finding new opportunities to volunteer your time is a great way to network and meet new people.

Volunteering in Okinawa to Help Your Resume

Volunteering in Okinawa is also a great way to fill a gap in your resume. Since most of us won’t work while our spouse is stationed here, volunteering, regardless of whether it’s in your field of work or not, will help you gain new skills or improve existing skills. If you plan to work when you get back to the states, this helps your future employers know you chose to engage and keep you skills fresh.

Any of the options listed below are great options. You can also volunteer with your spouses unit. Contacting the DRC or URC for their unit is a great way to get involved. You can ask for opportunities they may know about around the base or within the unit. If the family readiness program within your spouses unit is active with planning events for the unit, it’s a great way to meet other people in the unit while volunteering your time.
